INSEAI Network Kicks Off 2026 with a Strong Start — and a New Monthly Newsletter

Published: 12.02.2026

The INSEAI Network has started 2026 with renewed energy, marking the second year of the project and the launch of Work Package 3 (WP3)—led by Isabel Novo at the University of A Coruña (UDC). WP3 will explore the interplay between socioeconomic values, institutional frameworks, and policy approaches to informality at national and international levels.

January was marked by an active agenda and key milestones for the network. Research secondments were strengthened across Europe and Latin America, with researchers from Argentina, Paraguay, Portugal, and Poland working at universities in Spain, Italy, Bolivia, Argentina, and Brazil. These exchanges have further advanced comparative research on informality.

Preparations are also underway for INSEAI Workshop 2, to be held at the University of Salerno under the theme “Understanding Informality through Data: Empirical Approaches, Surveys and Emerging Evidence.”

The month featured an extensive schedule of discussion sessions on migration, informality dynamics, and structural vulnerability, including hybrid sessions. Members are also encouraged to keep promoting participation in the Employment and Wage Survey, a cornerstone for ongoing data collection.

New contributions to the INSEAI Blog explored fieldwork in Rio de Janeiro’s favelas and comparative research across network universities, while the INSEAI Testimony Collection released a new episode highlighting the Romanian team’s insights into national labour-market dynamics.

A New Way to Stay Connected: The INSEAI Newsletter

To keep up with these and future developments, INSEAI has launched a monthly newsletter—a gateway to everything happening across the network.

Our Newsletter features news, INSEAI network activities, conferences, seminars, and workshops on informality, as well as interviews and reflections from network members, offering valuable perspectives on informality and related issues in Europe and Latin America.

Readers are invited to subscribe and stay informed about the latest publications, key updates, and upcoming events related to informality research:
