INSEAI Workshop 2 successfully concludes at the University of Salerno

The Second INSEAI Workshop – “Understanding Informality through Data: Empirical Approaches, Surveys and Emerging Evidence” successfully took place on 29–30 June 2026 at the University of Salerno (Aula De Rosa, Building D2) in a hybrid format, bringing together researchers from Europe and Latin America. Organised by UNISA–CELPE and BUES, the workshop explored the empirical foundations of labour informality research, with a strong focus on databases, surveys and innovative methodological approaches.

Over two days, participants discussed new evidence on informal employment, shared experiences using survey data and administrative records, and debated how empirical tools can better capture the multidimensional nature of informality in different institutional and territorial contexts. The programme combined keynote presentations with parallel sessions, offering a space for dialogue between senior researchers, early‑career scholars and practitioners working on labour markets and social policy.

The workshop forms part of the broader agenda of the INSEAI project (Horizon Europe Project 101182756), which aims to build an international network for comparative socioeconomic analysis of informality and policies for its formalisation in the European Union and Latin America. With the successful completion of this second workshop, INSEAI consolidates its empirical pillar, strengthens cooperation among partner institutions, and advances its objective of generating robust, comparable data to inform public debate and policy design on labour informality.
