He holds a degree in Economics and a Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of Valencia (Spain). He has devoted over 30 years to teaching and research, initially in Mexico (at the Autonomous University of Tamaulipas and the Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education – ITESM), and since 2003 at the University of Valencia, Spain, where he works as a professor and researcher in the Department of Sociology. His main areas of specialization include labor precariousness, informality, underemployment, and the analysis of working and employment conditions across various productive sectors. Professor Lorente has authored numerous articles, book chapters, and two books published in Mexico by Plaza y Valdés. Over the years, he has conducted several research stays (Oxford, UMASS, UAT, IAEN, PUCE, Andean Simón Bolívar University, PUJ...) and participated in multiple research projects, both as principal investigator and collaborator. In 2017, he served as a Prometeo researcher for the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Ecuador at the Center for Labor Studies of the Ministry of Labor of Ecuador.
