In recent years, his research has focused on labor trajectories and job precariousness in Mexico across different occupations, professions, and regions. He is currently interested in the processes of digitalization and automation and their relationship to transformations in labor markets.

Full-time Professor-Researcher at El Colegio de la Frontera Norte (El Colef), attached to the Department of Economic Studies, where she also serves as Coordinator of the Master’s Programme in Applied Economics. She holds a PhD in Economic Sciences from the Autonomous University of Baja California and a PhD in Economics and Business from the University of Castilla-La Mancha, as well as postgraduate training in regional development and labour markets.

Her research focuses on labour economics, migration and inequality, with particular emphasis on job quality, informal work, cross-border labour markets and the working conditions of Mexican workers in the United States. She has published articles and book chapters on the quality of employment among Mexicans in the United States, wages and labour market segmentation, and youth participation in migration management along the Mexico–US border, often incorporating gender and generational perspectives.

She is an active member of national and international academic networks, including the INSEAI network, and collaborates with organisations and training programmes on migration, development and informal work in Mexico and Latin America.

PhD in Social Sciences from El Colegio de la Frontera Norte. He is currently a Professor-Researcher in the Department of Social Studies at El Colef in Tijuana, where he teaches in graduate programmes and takes part in applied research projects.

His research focuses on innovation, knowledge, industrial organisation and productive transformation, with particular interest in regional innovation systems, production chains and the impacts of digitalisation and automation on labour markets. He has authored and co-edited books, chapters and articles on Industry 4.0 in Mexico, innovation capabilities in the northern border region and the conditions for the development of local productive systems, as well as collective volumes on science, innovation and regional development.

He is an active member of national and international research networks, including the INSEAI network, and collaborates with public institutions and business organisations in analysing the challenges posed by digitalisation, informality and the reconfiguration of work in Mexico and Latin America.

PhD in Sociology from the CUNY Graduate Center, an MA in Regional Development from El Colegio de la Frontera Norte and a BA in Community Sciences from ITESM-Laguna. She is a Professor-Researcher at El Colegio de la Frontera Norte (El Colef), based in the Department of Population Studies, and a level-3 member of Mexico’s National System of Researchers (SNII).

Her main research interests include care cultures and care policies, care work, family and gender relations, and public policies and gender-based violence. She has coordinated and published works on gender and public policy, childcare and labour precariousness in Mexico, including Gender and Public Policies: Challenges and Opportunities for Mainstreaming in Nuevo León and studies on the (re)privatisation of childcare and gender inequalities in the labour market.

She is currently leading the research project “Childcare policies, work and gender. The privatisation of care in Mexican families in times of austerity” (Conahcyt) and is an active member of networks such as REGENOM, REMIPSO, SOMEDE and the Latin American Sociological Association (LASA). She has undertaken research stays at the Center for US-Mexican Studies at the University of California San Diego and at FLACSO-Uruguay, disseminating research on care and motherhood in Mexico’s northern border region.

Brenda Mariela Cano holds a degree in Sociology from the Autonomous University of Baja California and works as a research assistant at El Colegio de la Frontera Norte (El Colef), where she collaborates on projects linked to the institution’s INSEAI node.

PhD in Economics from the University of Sussex, an MA in Economics from the Center for Research and Teaching in Economics (CIDE) and a BA in Economics from the Autonomous University of Baja California. He is a Professor-Researcher at El Colegio de la Frontera Norte (El Colef), based in the Department of Economic Studies, which he currently directs, and a level-2 member of Mexico’s National System of Researchers (SNII).

His research focuses on labour economics, international migration and cross-border economics, with particular emphasis on the US–Mexico labour market, migrant wages and occupational risks, labour force participation and the effects of crime and violence on educational and labour outcomes. His work has been published in journals such as International Migration Review, Review of Development Economics, Oxford Development Studies, Latin American Economic Review, Population Research and Policy Review, The Social Science Journal, El Trimestre Económico and Estudios Económicos.

He has received distinctions including the 2019 Annual Prize in Economic Research from the Autonomous University of Nuevo León and the 2016 Joaquín Xirau Icaza Economics Prize from El Colegio de México, in recognition of the quality and impact of his contributions in labour and migration economics.
