Full professor at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (Spain) since 1993. He is a doctor in Economics and research on labour relations, labour market institutions and socioeconomics of informality. He wrote more than 40 books. Member of the High Council of the European University Institute (2000-2010) and member of international scientific associations and 10 editorial boards of international academic journals.
He leads the INSEAI 2023 Network, funded by the European Research Executive Agency.

Associate Professor of Economic Structure and Development Economics at the Faculty of Economics and Business Studies of the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM, Spain). He is currently the coordinator of the Master’s Program in Economic Development and Public Policy at the same university. He has been a visiting professor at the Institute of Ibero-American Studies at the University of Salamanca, a visiting researcher at the University of Oxford – Latin American Centre, and at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. His research and publications focus on economic development in Latin America, with special emphasis on labor relations—including the issue of informal employment—and international economic and financial integration. He is part of the coordinating team of Project 101182756 — INSEAI 2023 – Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions & Support to Experts A.3 MSCA Staff Exchanges, funded by the European Commission.
